TL;DR
In a hurry? Here's a quick speedrun of what this maintainer update covers:
The MCG demotion saga and the permaban
The maintainer break / "limited activity" will go through June-July 2026 (it could be longer since 2Y1 starts around early August 2026), but I will slowly get back to dev + infra work at Recap Time Squad HQ after the finals week (June 1-5)
If you have any suggestions for 501(c)(3)-based fiscal hosts for open-source projects and orgs alongside Raft Foundation (sent the application form for initial interest and review as of 06/21 01:21 PHT) and Software in the Public Interest (based on the March 2024 vetted list by the Open Collective crew in the light of OCF shutdown), please let me know (especially if you are representing that kind of fiscal sponsor so I can sort things out with the migration and transition flows).
Editor's note: It was intended to be posted earlier last May 2026, in the week when the ban happened but between the crunch to finals exam and occasional crashouts, this has been shelved to the backburner until this day during the Pride month.
Here we are again. If you're at Slack and asking why my Slack account is deactivated and needs more context than the #community-logs channel, please have a read (direct link to README.md file):
In case you missed it, here's the whole MCG demotion saga for those asking how we got here. As I much as I regret about the parts of me being inappropriate1 in the past, I am want to apologize for those activity that may cause discomfort among everybody. If you are those affected (either in the Hack Club Slack or elsewhere in the past for other reasons) and anything you want from me to help you heal from the experience (a personal apology for example), please do reach out and ask2.
Since I have mentioned in the permaban notice/final signoff letter about another maintainer break (to quote below, see also its post-mortem update last month), that is currently undergoing since earlier this week (around May 11-12). Although you may see that I am still active a bit lately in the Atmosphere (I might have some mirrors running under my name on GitLab but will be switched off to a service account in the future or disabled and archived once things have been settled later.), I am currently in a limited availability state so I can focus on school and other parts of my life for now.
I know this is hard news for anybody, but I am still processing through the whole thing and I will be taking another maintainer break like I did earlier (maybe longer than last time) to slow down a bit, reflect and recharge while sorting through my studies.
You might also see this policy regarding community bans and HCB since February, so there will be behind-the-scenes coordination to sort those loose ends and if needed, may required migrate to another 501(c)(3) non-profit host3. There will be a update at Recap Time Squad Blog once further details are clarified by the HCB team but in the meanwhile feel free to still chip in financially to support our open-source projects and future work.
So that's it for now. I'll be back here in the blog to publish some from the backburner of Leaflet drafts that leave me awake at night alongside some more in a upcoming status update for June-July 2026 period. See ya!
